主讲人简介:
Geoffrey Rudkin Worked in textile production and then for 30 years with global dye and chemical suppliers promoting improvements in process technology. Elected as Chairman of the Trustee Board of the Society of Dyers and Colourists in 2015 (to date). Graduate of Manchester University in Textile Chemistry (B.Sc Hons) and then elected as a Fellow of the Society of Dyers and Colourists (FSDC) and subsequently awarded the Society's Gold Medal for services to the industry and education.

讲座简介:
The global textile industry is widely regarded as the single largest contributor to industrial waste water and the largest user of pesticides; it is also the sector associated with some of the worst employment conditions for its workers. How then will it perform in a world of sustainability consciousness? Will the big companies drive sustainability from the top down, pushing suppliers into better practice and shaping the tastes of consumers? Will the consumer demand for ethical products swing demand to the firms who produce sustainably? Or ultimately will it be left to governments and regulation to pull the industry away from its social and environmentally damaging past? In addressing these questions a greater appreciation is gained of the future of the industry and the ways that the research community can focus the agenda to solving the practice problems faced.
